Art is Online

Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery based in Dubai has launched an online virtual gallery using the most advanced technological innovations to showcase the gallery and its artworks.

Art is one of the few things that is still able to emotionally involve us. Especially in a moment where we are physically constrained due to travel and movement restrictions, art becomes essential, donating us momentary joy, and distracting our minds from problems that we experience.

Founding Partner of Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery, lover of art, Paola Marucci, believes that the physical pleasure of viewing art and touching artworks in person will never replace the technological experience of art.

“However, in hard times, I like to believe that there are interesting ways of reinventing the relationship between the art lover or art collector, and art. I think that interacting with art online can further strengthen this relationship, while providing more information about the history of pieces and the background of their creators. If you think about it from a logistic perspective, with all the travel restrictions, people can now view art from all around the world,” says Paola.

The virtual tour of Oblong Contemporary will allow users to experience talented artists’ work, all from disciplines. Artists include Colombian minimalistic marble sculptor, Gustavo Velez, hyper-realistic photography painter, Enrico Ghinato, conceptual animal sculptor Stefano Bombardieri, leading Latin American painter, Julio Larraz and classical sculptor, Igor Mitoraj, who echoed old Roman and Greek cultures with a post-modern twist.

“I believe that a virtual gallery is something that will not only benefit Dubai space, but will also be a great platform to use going forward, for people to view our artists from abroad as well as from the comfort of their homes. The idea of such a mixture of beautiful works by such talented artists, sitting in a space that is not accessible is very saddening. Thankfully we don’t have to worry about that anymore,” comments Emanuela Venturini, Founding Partner of Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery.

I think this can represent an opportunity to creatively venture towards innovative and interactive ways of engaging with art and culture without having to leave our house. I am sure that the art world’s dynamics will change after the coronavirus, and that art business will continue to strengthen their online presence and inspire art lovers.”

Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery based from Dubai - Scale Architectural and Design MagazineArt assumes a central role in difficult times according to Paola. It has been seen that it is the creative community that has passed on stories down the ages even during trying times.

Art in any shape represents a getaway from reality. In a world that it’s moving super-fast, art is one of the few things that is still able to emotionally involve us. Especially in a moment where we are physically constrained due to travel and movement restrictions, art becomes essential, donating us momentary joy, and distracting our minds from problems that we experience. Art connects us to the foreign, to the unthinkable, to the unknown, surprising us and connecting us to a world where everything is possible.”
